Hazero has been recognised for product innovation at the Fire NZ 2025 Conference, receiving the Carboline | Altex Coatings Innovative Product Award for its Lithium-ion Battery Safety Cabinet range.
The award was accepted by Reuben Deck, Head of Business Development and Product Innovation, at the Fire NZ gala dinner in Wellington. Presented by Garth Moran on behalf of the sponsors, the award acknowledges Hazero’s contribution to advancing safety solutions in response to the growing risks associated with lithium-ion battery storage.
Designed and manufactured in New Zealand, Hazero’s Lithium-ion Safety Cabinets have been developed to provide a robust and compliant solution for managing the fire risks associated with lithium-ion batteries across commercial, industrial and residential environments.
Responding to a Growing Risk
Lithium-ion battery incidents are increasing both locally and globally. Data from Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ) indicates that lithium-ion battery-related fires have more than doubled since 2020, with 120 incidents recorded in 2024 and a further 42 reported year-to-date.
As the use of lithium-ion batteries continues to expand across consumer devices, transport and industrial applications, so too does the potential for failure events such as thermal runaway. These events can escalate rapidly, resulting in high temperatures, fire, explosion and the release of hazardous gases.
Engineered for Performance and Protection
Hazero’s award-winning cabinet range has been engineered to mitigate these risks through controlled storage, containment and compliance-led design. The solution supports businesses and individuals in reducing exposure to lithium-ion battery hazards, while aligning with recognised safety standards and best practice.
Industry Recognition
Commenting on the award, Reuben Deck noted that the recognition reflects Hazero’s ongoing commitment to innovation and safety.
“Our focus has always been on developing practical, high-performance solutions that address real-world risks. This award acknowledges the work our team has done to advance lithium-ion battery safety and provide meaningful protection for our customers.”
Looking Ahead
As lithium-ion battery adoption continues to accelerate, the need for specialised safety infrastructure will become increasingly critical. Hazero remains focused on leading this space through continued product development, compliance expertise and a commitment to protecting people, property and operations.
